PARKER CEILINGS SECURE ONGOING CONTRACTS WITH BALFOUR BEATTY AT LONDON’S GATWICK AIRPORT

Following on from the success of Parker Ceilings’ recent projects at London Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal, we were again chosen by main contractor Balfour Beatty for new installations, this time in the North Terminal as part of the airport’s major investment programme.

In 2013, owners Gatwick Airport Ltd announced that it was to extend its investment plan as competition among operators in the south east, and the battle with Heathrow to secure the next London airport runway, continued to hot up.

When contractors were engaged the following year, Balfour Beatty called on Parker Ceilings to continue our successful working relationship.

MAKING LIFE EASY FOR EASYJET

The project at the North Terminal required us provide sound design advice and installation in the main Level 10 passenger concourse and, specifically, in and around the new EasyJet Automatic Check-In area, covering in excess of 5,000 sq mtr.

As was the case with the South Terminal project a variety of systems manufactured by SAS International were used in order to fulfil the remit set by main contractor Balfour Beatty.

The remit was to ensure that the finished result was as functional as it was aesthetically pleasing with a view to longevity of usage by increasing passenger numbers over decades to come.

WORKING TOGETHER

As is ever the case, in addition to our installation credentials, we were preferred by the main contractors for our ability to work in close coordination with other contractors brought in to handle mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilation and flooring services.

Both the South and North Terminal contracts required us to provide input with the design of the specified areas using Constructable methods of installation. Constructability requires the contractor to identify obstacles before a project is actually built to reduce or prevent errors, delays, and cost overruns.

Credit for our impressive reputation in this field must go to our project managers, and to our highly qualified and personable workforce.

Our project management team are favoured for their ability to review construction processes from start to finish during the pre-construction phase, to handle complex logistics and to dovetail our services with those provided by other contractors.

Our engineers and construction staff are selected as rigorously for their ability to work as part of a team as for the very specific skills each provides.

It has been a breath of fresh air for me to use what is, to me, a new contractor in yourselves. The school are over the moon with the works that have been completed. This would not have been achieved without your efforts in accommodating the rather restrictive timetable.
